A castle like a (fast)ness
This castle is the perfect heading for almost any wedding. But it’s not only weddings that go down in history forever and ever up here, cultural events such as the Oktoberfest, Kaprun Castle Festival or the springtime fair with more than 50 different exhibitors showcasing all things handicraft enchant in their own very special way. Those who want to take a look at this impressive ambience in private, simply combine the individual castle visit with a leisurely walk – here in Pinzgau no one ever fails to discover their wanderlust.
Unfortunately, there are no precise records documenting the construction of Kaprun Castle, but it is estimated to be in the 12th century. This is because the east tower features Romanesque criteria.
In 1280 the "Turn zu Chaprunne" is mentioned in documents as compensation for the attacks of the Velbers. The castle is likely to initially have been owned by the counts of Falkenstein or Peilstein.
