Flying high, instead of lying low
3203 – that’s not the phone number of a Lower Austrian alpine travel company, it’s the altitude of Kitzsteinhorn. The cable car will take you up to just below the summit, covering some 2,100 metres elevation gain from the lower terminus. Having arrived at the top, you have phenomenal views of the rest of the Glockner Group and Hohe Tauern National Park.
The viewing platform with the programmatic name “Top of Salzburg” protrudes far above the precipice and is not for the faint-hearted. In winter, Kitzsteinhorn is an Eldorado for skiers and snowboarders and one of the best-known glacier ski areas in Austria, in summer for hikers and walkers who like to stay on top of things.
No matter if summer or winter, on Kitzsteinhorn you’ll experience everything the Alps have to offer in way of experiences: From winter sports to views, hiking and mountain biking all the way to sightseeing in the Gipfelwelt 3000. The incredible panorama is definitely a must-see for all locals and every holidaymaker. The Gipfelwelt 3000 is even the highest located day-trip destination in Salzburgerland. High up at more than 3,000 metres, you’ll find yourself at the border to Hohe Tauern National Park and can feel the high alpine nature with all the senses. Such a delight is normally only possible for mountaineers, but with the cable car you will easily and quickly get up to more than 3,000 metres and the otherwise so strenuous mountain tour becomes a leisurely outing.
