Shopping on a small scale - because local is good for us all
The entrance to the regional store in the Hintergasse is rather unremarkable: there are no neon-lit signs here. Instead, lovingly decorated displays make you want to go inside. Renate Holzer has been working with regional foods for many years. When Mittersill announced a call for ideas for the further use of the former district court in 2015, the idea of a store selling regional products came up. Renate knew immediately: “That's exactly what we need in Mittersill.” Together with Guido Janitz, who came up with the idea, and his friend Georg Keil, she finally founded COOPinzgau. The “Association for the Promotion of a Sustainable Lifestyle and Consumption” was based on the “food co-op” concept, which has long been an issue in cities. “We rounded up all the producers we trusted and started with very little funding but were convinced that our concept would be well received. Since then, we have been trying to make regional shopping as easy as possible: Order in the online store at www.coopinzgau.at by Tuesday, and the freshly delivered goods can be picked up on Friday.” There are further pick-up points in Bramberg, Uttendorf and Piesendorf. Also great: the subscription box - once a month or weekly delivery with products that you choose yourself.
